“Over the past week islanders, visitors and friends of Scilly have spoken. The public reaction has shown the present transport system is simply not fit for purpose. We only want to make it better.
“A helicopter service from Penzance is right for Scilly and for west Cornwall. A helicopter based at Land’s End Airport will do nothing to improve the resilience, choice and competitiveness of the islands’ transport system – the fundamental aims of this project. We have examined the proposals; they simply do not work, as much as we would like them to.
“The reaction over the past week has clearly shown that the islands’ transport infrastructure can and must be improved. We remain absolutely and resolutely committed to this project and ask the Steamship Company to withdraw their Judicial Review challenge, which is not in the interests of these islands.”
